Prayer of Confession (unison)

God of mercy, you sent Jesus Christ to seek and save the lost.
We confess that we have strayed from you and turned aside from your way.
We are misled by pride, for we see ourselves pure when we are stained and we see ourselves great when we are small.
We have failed in love, neglected justice, and ignored your truth.
Have mercy, O God, and forgive our sin.
Return us to paths of righteousness through Jesus Christ, our Savior.
Amen.

Assurance of Pardon (unison)

O Christ, in every creature you place first and forever a word: God's forgiveness and your confidence in us. Then you guide us to walk in your footsteps, offering the energy to begin anew and reminding us that you have forgiven us even before we ask for forgiveness.

Or, (Happy are those whose help is in God, the one who made heaven and earth. Blessed are those whose hope is in Christ, the one who keeps faith forever. In that spirit of faithfulness, God in Christ has forgiven us and invites us rise in new life.)

Opening Prayer

God of all good gifts, we thank you and praise you. Your Spirit has touched our lives, bringing wisdom, power, joy, courage, and passion. We pray this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Jesus, our hope, we have these wonderful minds, gifts, times, and talents in our hands. May we use them for your joyful kingdom. May you guide us to be more productive in all that we do. In your name, we pray. Amen.

Hymn 138 Holy, Holy, Holy

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty
God in three persons, blessed Trinity

Holy, holy, holy, all the saints adore Thee
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea
Cherubim and seraphim, falling down before Thee
Which, wert and art and ever more shall be

Holy, holy, holy, though the darkness hide Thee
Though the eye of sinfulness Thy Glory may not see
Only Thou art holy, there is none beside Thee
Perfect in power, in love and purity

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Alimighy
All Thy works shall praise Thy Name in earth and sky and sea
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty
God in three persons, blessed Trinity

Scripture Reading: Mark 6: 30-44

(As we Read Mark 6: 30-44, you may close your eyes and picture what was going on. Have a silence after reading.)

The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught.

He said to them, "Come away with me by yourselves to a quiet place and rest a while." It was because many were coming and going, they did not even have a chance to eat. And they went away in the boat to a quiet place by themselves.

But many saw them going and recognized them. And they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them.

As Jesus landed, he saw a great crowd. He felt compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began to teach them many things.

When it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, "This is a deserted place, and the hour is now very late; send them away so that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy something for themselves to eat."

But Jesus answered them, "You give them something to eat." They said to him, "Are we to go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread, and give it to them to eat?" And he said to them, "How many loaves have you? Go and see."

When they had found out, they said, "Five, and two fish." Then he ordered them to get all the people to sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups of hundreds and of fifties. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and he divided the two fish among them all. And all ate and were filled; and they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. Those who had eaten the loaves numbered five thousand men.

Questions for Discussions

(Each person may choose one of the following questions to answer and discuss with your group.)
• How did Jesus feel toward the crowd?
• Have you ever felt the same way toward a group of people? Who were they? Have you done anything for the group?
• Have you experienced God's compassion upon your church or community? Can you recall your personal story? Can you identify a group of people today who would need God's compassion and feeding?

There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endures
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Departure
Hymn 339 Be Thou My Vision

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art –
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Riches I heed not, nor vain empty praise,
Thou mine inheritance now and always:
Thou and Thou only first in my heart,
Great God of heaven, my treasure Thou art.

Be thou my wisdom, and Thou my true word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

Gospel reading: Matthew 7: 7-8
Jesus says: Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling-places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going. (NRSV)

You are able more than able to accomplish what concerns me today.

You are able more than able to make me what you want me to be.

Closing Prayer:
“Christ Jesus, when we think we are alone, you are there. If there seems to be doubt within us, that does not make you love us any the less. En cambio recibes la ofrenda humilde, la ofrenda humilde, Senor Jesucristo, De mi corazon.

(Translation: How can we repay so great a love, that you gave Your life for the sinner?
In exchange, receive this humble offering, this humble offering, Lord Jesus Christ, from my heart.)

Knowing You, Jesus, knowing You. There is no greater thing.
You're my all, You're the best, You're my joy, my righteousness;
And I love You, Lord. And I love You, Lord.

You are my hiding place,
You always fill my heart with songs of deliverance.
Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.

Reading: Philippians 2: 5-11
Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus,
who, though he was in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God
as something to be exploited,
but emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave,
being born in human likeness.
And being found in human form,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to the point of death—
even death on a cross.

Therefore God also highly exalted him
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bend,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Confession

Forgive us, Christ, for we have sinned against you.
We have not loved you as you have loved us.
We have not loved each other as you have asked us to do.
Sometimes, because we are smart, we despise those who are not, instead of helping them with our intelligence.
Sometimes, because we are rich, we despise those who are not, instead of sharing our wealth or helping them get started.
Sometimes, because we are educated, we despise those who are not, instead of teaching them what we have learned.
Sometimes, because we are socially privileged, we despise those who are not, instead of opening a door for them or introduce them to our friends.
Forgive us, Christ, for we have sinned against you.

Let your will be done

(After leaders’ meeting)
Is there any hymn do you like to sing?
(Sing two hymns: e.g., hymns: 377)

Now our time is about to end.
Let's bring all our thoughts and intention and offer them to God, in Jesus name.
Let's have a silent moment of prayer so that we can offer all our thoughts and intention to God.

(After a moment of silence)
Let's pray:
God, today we talk about our hope and desire.
Now we offer them to you.
We offer to our hope, desire, and goals.
And we surrender all to your name.

In this time, we are waiting for you to come and change us so that we will be ready for your new movement that is starting.

So, now we want to think your thoughts and be filled with your Holy Spirit.
We are yours.
Inspire us and change us for your work and your community.
Send your Holy Spirit.
Move us.
Mold us.
Guide us to the right direction.
We want to be motivated by you.
We want to be touched by your Spirit.

God, do this for your glory.
Do this for your son’s glory.
Do this for Jesus glory.

We pray this, remembering your son, Jesus and his works on earth.
Amen.

ppt

Who loves God more?
Prop: one dollar and one million dollar bills
Prop 2: if you like to act out of this sine, you need two persons and God.

Do you know what this is?
Yes, it is one dollar bill.
How much is this one?
Yep, this is one million dollar bill.

Using these, I would like to tell you a story.
A long time ago, Jesus told this story.

He said:
God is like a moneylender.
Meaning, God is so rich.
God is someone who has a lot of money.
So people come to borrow some money.
Particularly, two persons come to God to borrow some money.
God is very kind.
So, God was like:
“OK, How much you need?
One dollar?
Here it is.
What about you?
On million dollar?
OK. Here you go.”

Then these two persons went to make more money using this money.
But their businesses didn’t go well.
They made some mistakes.
So they lost every penny of it.

So, they couldn’t pay God back.
So, they came to God and explained what had happened.
God was like:
“Ok.
Things happen.
Don’t worry about it.
I am going to cancel all your debts.
You don't have to pay me anything back.”

So, this is the story.
After telling this story, Jesus asks an interesting question.
He said:
“Now which of them will love God more?"

What do you think?
Do you think the person owed one dollar loves God more?
Do you think the person owed one million dollar loves God more?
Why?
Because his bigger debt was canceled, right?
I think he was more thankful and grateful, right?

Jesus was saying that God is like this moneylender.
God gives us freely what we need.
But when we make mistakes and when we did something not so good, we can always come to God, because God forgives us.
When we come to God and explain what we did, God says:
“Ok.
Things happen.
Don’t worry about it.
Forget it.
I am going to cancel all your debts.
You don't have to pay me anything back?”

Some of us are forgiven little.
Some of us are forgiven a lot.

But no matter who you are, God would say:
"You are forgiven.
Your faith has saved you.
Go in peace.
You don't have to pay me anything back."

Well, that is our story today.
What do you think about this story?
Do you know someone who might owe God one million dollar?
Do are those who may owe God one million dollars?
They might have been very poor.
They might have done something terrible wrong.

God forgives them too.
Jesus was willing to show kindness to those who owe God a lot.
Jesus was willing to forgive one million dollar debt.

It might be easy to forgive those who only have done wrong something so small.
But Jesus might here invite to us to forgive those who have done something wrong big time.
Then we may be free.
We may live like God.

Let’s Pray:
Jesus, thank you for forgiving us and giving us a new chance in life again and again.
And thank you for teaching us what God is like.
In your name we pray. Amen.

OK. See you next time.

I Kings 17:8-24

(a children sermon, based on I Kings 17:8-24)

Prop: a baby (a toy)

Do you know what this is?
Yes, this is a baby doll.

I would like to use this to tell a story.

It was many, many years ago. It is about three thousand years ago.
There was a very, very good lady.
She was a very kind. So, when she saw a man of God who was traveling a lot, she offered him a room and foods. She said, “From now on, it is your room. Just come and stay whenever you like.” For the man of God, that is exactly what he needed. So, he was happy.

Then one day, while he was staying in his room, the lady said that her baby has just died.
This was her only child.

The man of God felt so sorry for her.
So he wanted to do something.
He said, “Give me your son.”
Then he took him and carried him to his room where he was staying.
He laid him on his bed.
Then he pray saying, “O God, Let him live. Let him breathe again. Let him live again!”

Then suddenly the boy start breathing. He was alive.
So, the man of God gave the baby back to the lady. "Here is your baby alive!"
She was so happy.
She was rejoicing and praising God.
Then she said to the man of God, "Now I know that you are a really holy man of God and your words are true.”

What do you think of this story?
I think when we try to help each other and when we want to help one another, sometimes miracles happen. Well, this is our story today.

Let’s pray: Christ, thank you for all the miracles that are happening in our life whether it is big or small. We pray that we would be always rejoicing and praising you because you are always with us. In your name we pray. Amen.
