Reading: Luke 12:32-40
“Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your God’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give to the poor.
“Make purses for yourselves that do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Jesus suggests that there are purses that do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven.
How can we have that purse?
If we want to help North Korean to accept the story of Jesus, we may need to spend our times praying.
If we want to support a ministry over there or near border, we may need to use our energy and money to serve them.
We serve God, with our times and money.
When we are willing to do this, God may move with us.
When we help the poor, we in fact help God searching to help others.
In this way we make purses in heaven for ourselves.
Jesus also says that we need to be ready for action and have our lamps burning.
We need to wait for Jesus to return from the wedding banquet, so that we may welcome him as soon as he comes and knocks.
Blessed are we if Jesus finds us alert when he comes.
Then Jesus will fasten his belt and have us sit down to eat, and he will come and serve them.
He may come during the middle of the night, or near dawn.
If he finds us working for God, you are blessed.
But for some reason, God is going to send Jesus like a thief.
So, we need to be ready, for Jesus coming at an unexpected hour.
But as long as we are rich in God, we are fine.
