John 7:17

Reading: John 7:17
Additional reading: John 7:17, John 6:63, Philippians 2:13

People had various opinions about Jesus.
Some people were very skeptical about Jesus.
Some people really wanted to know whether Jesus was from God or not.

(1) Then Jesus said this: John 7:17

Jesus suggests trying out some of his teachings.
Then they would know whether his teachings are really from God or not.
Somehow they would know.
Those who try to practice his teachings will know.
It may takes some times.
But they will know.

To those who want to know God’s will, Jesus may ask the same thing:
“Try out my teachings. Then you will experience the works of the Holy Spirit. Then you will come close to God. You will come closer to me. You may grow in faith through those experiences to know my will.”

(2) Then in Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus says:
“Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

So, Jesus asked them to build their life based on what Jesus said.
Then God will guide them and help them.
They will experience God’s guiding hands and God’s help.
Then they will have more reasons to trust in Jesus.

When you wonder whether Jesus is God, try to practice what Jesus said.
Then you may know whether Jesus is God or not.

Jesus is still speaking to us.
Those who want to hear him need to obey what Jesus said.
Then they may know his will.
(3) Jesus speaks because we need to follow his will.
But sometimes, we may not pay attention to it.
So, Jesus asks us to pray.
Through prayer, we can find the will of God.
Then through some spiritual experiences, we may find our calling.
You may sense that Jesus wills and prays through us. (Philippians 2:13)

When we really try to know the will of God, God will speak to you.

Some people just know when God speaks to them because they have been praying about it.
It is not difficult to find the will of God.
If we want to know the will of God, it is easy to find the will of God.
God will help us to find out.
We should not make it difficult.

So, we are going to study to know how God speaks to us.
Some say that they sense it in our stomach area.
They felt something in their stomach area when God speak directly to them.
God is spirit. God may guide you through feelings. You are spiritual beings.

Or sometimes, it is in our mouth.
So we may speak God’s will without knowing.
If you are like this, you may need to journaling.

Sometimes God may speak audibly. But you may not notice because it sounds like your own voice or someone else.

Have you ever felt that God has been speaking to you?
(testimony: letter, like my own voice)

People may have different intelligences.
So they may pray differently.
They may discern their calling differently.

So, people may hear God differently.
Some people need to sit quietly to think and pray.
Some people need to walk to think and pray.
Some people need to pray out loud.

The important thing is to really try to listen to God.
Then you can hear.
Then later we can check it to see whether we are hearing right.
As we get to know Jesus, we may discern better.
Then we may just know what his will is and when he speaks.

God is very close: closer than you think.
Sometimes, we just need to notice.

So, we want to learn of God.
Then we may know how God speaks.
We may know which voices are from God and which are not.
You will learn which teachings are from God.
You will know when God speaks to you.

So, we are going to have some exercises.

(1) So, here is the first exercise:
Pray about what the will of God is for you.
Then write them down.
I will give enough times for this.
Write down everything that you know is the will of God.

(4) Secondly, I want you to write down everything that makes you peaceful.
Looking at these questions, write down your answers:
What or who brings you peace?
What or who makes you smile?
Who or what energizes you?

(6) Thirdly, to know yourself, try to write your answers here.
On the right side, write down the answers for O.
One the left, write down the answers for X.

This practice is also good for your mental safety.
You need to know these things.
In order to find the will of God, sometimes, you need to know yourself.
You may need to study yourself just like scientists study their machines.
If you know what kind of person you are, you can take care of yourself better mentally and emotionally for God.
So, you need to know what make you peaceful.
What are the things that you can do to make you feel peaceful and good in God?
What are the things that make you feel bad and tired?

(3) Then when you feel not so good, look the list that you made.
Then you can change your mood by changing the things you do.
You may make you feel good by doing the things that make you feel good.

Some people may know only what they don’t like.
Don’t be like them.
You need to know what you love to do and do it.

(8-15: explain)

Then try to find your way back to God.
You can always come back to God

If you want to find out your calling, or your profession, you need to find something that is on the right side.
Even if you think you may not be earning a lot of money, you need to choose what is on the right.
Then you would be happy.
But if you choose what is on the left, you will not be successful and not very happy.
It is so obvious.
How can you compete with those who do things just for love and just for pure joy?
It is so obvious.
It is like this.
If you don’t like to play basketball, you should not choose to play basketball for your job, no matter how much you are going to be paid for playing basketball.

(Daily check)

There is a lot of voice in this world. You need to listen to the voice that really matters: your inner voice through which God speaks.

Let’s pray:
